Replace the firmware on the Overo® hardware with a customized Linux® distribution.
Before replacing the firmware, install the support package.
After replacing the firmware, you can run a Simulink® model on the Overo hardware.
The following overview summarizes the firmware replacement process:
Support Package Installer locates a firmware image on your host computer or downloads new one.
Support Package Installer uses the host computer, not the Overo hardware, to write the firmware image to a microSD card.
You transfer the microSD card to the Overo hardware.
Support Package Installer configures the Overo hardware.
To replace the firmware on your Overo hardware:
Open the Update firmware screen in Support Package Installer using one of the following methods:
Click Continue in the Install/update complete screen of Support Package Installer.
In a model, select Tools > Run on Target Hardware > Update firmware.
In a MATLAB® Command Window, enter targetupdater.
If the correct firmware image is already present in the Download folder, the Support Package Installer automatically skips re-downloading the firmware image.
The file size of the firmware image is approximately 1 GB. The length of time required to download the firmware depends on the speed of your connection.
Click Refresh and select the drive letter of the microSD card:
If only one drive letter is available, click Next.
If multiple drive letters are available, open the Windows Start menu, choose Computer, and look under Devices with Removable Storage to identify the letter Windows assigned to the microSD card.
In Microsoft® Windows, open the Devices and Printers, and locate the Overo hardware device.
Get the COM port number from the Hardware tab of the Overo hardware device.
If you just connected the Overo hardware using the USB cable, click Refresh to update the list of options.
Review the automatically generated value of Board name.
Review the settings under IP Assignment:
If the Overo hardware is connected to a network with DHCP services, leave Automatically get IP address selected and click Configure. A LAN or an Internet router typically provide DHCP services.
If your board is directly connected to an Ethernet port on your computer or connected to an isolated network without DHCP services, select Manually enter IP address. In the dialog box that appears, give the board a unique name, enter static IP settings for the board, and click Configure.
Note: To enter static IP settings for your board, follow these guidelines:
For example, if the Ethernet port on your host computer has a network mask of 255.255.255.0 and a static IP address of 192.168.1.1, set:
When you click Configure, Support Package Installer opens a serial connection and applies the settings to the board.
