I have installed JDK (Java Developer's Kit) 7 or 8, and now I am unable to install or activate MATLAB using Internet under OS X. Installation/activation client states that it cannot connect to MathWorks.

If you have installed Oracle's JDK 7 or 8, you have two options:
1) Install/activate manually without using Internet. MATLAB will work fine even if you have JDK 7 or 8 installed because it will still be using Apple's Java 6 that does not get removed when JDK 7 or 8 are installed.
2) Alternatively, you may uninstall JDK 7 or 8 which will let you install and activate MATLAB using Internet.
